2009 Annual BET music awards scramble at last minute to honor Jackson

BET Awards-- which honors the best performers in music, acting and sports had chosen to honor the O'Jays as this years show, but once the news hit the airways of Michael Jackson's passing they scrambled to do a overhaul and the O'Jay's ended up sharing their tribute with Michael Jackson.

The awards opened with New Edition performing the Jackson 5 hit "The Love You Save." Host Jamie Foxx wore a red, leather "Beat It" jacket for his opening monologue and did his best to imitate Jackson's moonwalk across the floor.

Michael Jackson's sister Janet thanked the crowd at the BET Awards Sunday night for paying tribute to her late brother.
Debra L. Lee, chairman and chief executive officer of Black Entertainment Television, said Jackson's death both saddened and energized the awards organizers.

Breaking news: Michael Jackson dead

Michael Jackson, also known as the "King of Pop", died Thursday. He was 50. Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m.
He was perhaps the most exciting performer of his generation ranked alongside Elvis Presley and the Beatles as the biggest pop sensations of all time.

Jackson was preparing for what was to be his greatest comeback: He was scheduled for an unprecedented 50 shows at a London arena, with the first set for July 13.

Singer Dionne Warwick said: "Michael was a friend and undoubtedly one of the world's greatest entertainers that I fortunately had the pleasure of working with........we have lost an icon in our industry."

New Jersey girl’s child porn charges dropped

The 14-year-old girl, who posted nude pictures of herself on MySpace.com, will have the charges dropped.

The teen was originally arrested and charged with possession of child pornography and its distribution back in March. Authorities said the girl posted nearly 30 explicit nude pictures of herself.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office ordered that the teen undergo at least six months of counseling and probation and must stay out of trouble.

Troup, Texas Teen Lifts Car to Save Sister

The accident that resulted in the car being overturned happened late Monday night on FM 2493, just east of Highway 69.

Diyamon Martin lost control of the car and overcorrected in an accident that resulted in the car being overturned.

"I just let go of the wheel and covered my face," said Martin.

Martin was flung from the car and somehow ended up lodged beneath it. Her sister, Monie Rodgers, in an effort to save her life, lifted the vehicle pulling her to safety.

"I didn't know how I was going to get it off of her," said Monie. "I just started praying and I pushed it up and it just came up."

Martin's leg was crushed. Her lungs were punctured. She has nine broken ribs amazingly she has survived.
